Violin

The violin is one of the most difficult instruments to learn, but it is also a versatile instrument. The violin can be used to play any genre of music ranging from classical to pop, jazz, folk, Karnatik, and fiddling. The violin is considered a solo instrument, meaning that it usually plays the main musical line in a piece. Violin technique requires extensive practice and skill; proficiency comes with experience and dedication.

The best age to start violin is 6 or 7. However, many students start violin lessons in middle school when choosing an orchestra instrument, and with proper instruction older students can still achieve a high level of performance.

Beginners usually start with 30-minute lessons, meeting once a week. We recommend renting a violin until the student is convinced that learning the violin will become a long-term commitment. Contact us for more information about stores that rent reasonably priced but prime quality violins.
